Joseph Sullivan

Joseph F. Sullivan is a seasoned personal injury attorney at Sullivan Brill Personal Injury Attorneys, LLP, with over 30 years of experience advocating for victims of negligence. Raised in Jamaica, Queens by working-class parents, he was the second in his family to attend college and the first to earn an advanced degree. Joseph graduated cum laude from Temple University School of Law in 1994, where he served as both writer and editor for the Temple Law Review. He began his legal career defending insurance companies and major corporations, gaining invaluable insight into how these entities operate. Over the course of his defense work, Joseph tried more than 25 cases to verdict and successfully resolved hundreds more—earning recognition for landmark cases, including one that was named “Verdict of the Week” by the New York Jury Verdict Reporter. In 2001, Joseph co-founded Sullivan Brill with a mission to represent individuals—not corporations. His deep understanding of defense strategy now empowers his client advocacy, allowing him to anticipate and counter opposing arguments with precision. He handles cases ranging from car accidents and slip and falls to medical malpractice and wrongful death across all five boroughs of New York City as well as Nassau, Suffolk, and Westchester counties. Joseph has been named a Super Lawyer every year from 2014 to 2025, holds a perfect 10 rating on Avvo, and is recognized by The National Trial Lawyers as one of the “Top 100 Civil Plaintiff Attorneys” in the country. His working-class roots and personal family history—like his father’s determination to support the family shining shoes on Sutphin Boulevard—fuel his passion for helping everyday people get the justice they deserve. Committed to ethical, tenacious representation, Joseph personally oversees every case at Sullivan Brill. He is a proud member of the American Association for Justice, the New York State Bar Association, and the New York State Trial Lawyers Association.
